Immediate Vaccinations for Foot-and-Mouth Disease: What You Need to Know About Meat Consumption

Vaccinations for foot-and-mouth disease are underway in Cyprus, with an initial batch of 10,000 doses delivered from the occupied territories to the free areas. Another 10,000 doses are expected in the coming days, with the European Commission sending a total of 529,000 doses. Vaccinations began in the restriction zone (Aradippou area) and will expand to the surveillance zone. According to authorities, meat consumption will continue after vaccination, as vaccinated animals will not be slaughtered. Only animals already diagnosed with the virus, a total of 260 cows, will be culled. A meeting of stakeholders presented the vaccination plan, which will be adapted according to the situation's development. Farmers in Aradippou have already been informed about the procedures. The goal of the vaccinations is to protect animal health and prevent the spread of the disease following the outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease in the free areas of Cyprus.
