How Many Animals Have Been Vaccinated Against Foot and Mouth Disease

According to Dr. Dimitris Epameinondas, President of the Pan-Cypriot Veterinary Association, vaccinations for foot and mouth disease in Cyprus are at 85% for cattle and 45% for sheep and goats. It is estimated that there are approximately 500,000 sheep and goats and 90,000 cattle in Cyprus. Emphasis is being placed on vaccinating large livestock farms and those near pig farms, due to the susceptibility of pigs to the virus. Efforts are underway to import vaccines for pigs from Germany.
