The Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus is convening in an emergency session to discuss a series of important issues, including the case of Bishop Tychicus, who has appealed to the Supreme Court, violating a key condition for his return. The Synod is also considering changes to the Statutory Charter of the Church, with a focus on the process of electing bishops and metropolitans, proposing a separation from the election of the Archbishop. In addition, the possibility of institutionalizing auxiliary bishops, especially in large metropolitan areas, is being discussed, with these auxiliaries playing an active role in the Synod's work. Finally, the issue of the monks of the Abbakum Monastery is also on the agenda, with heightened sensitivity due to information about potential violations of rules.
