Holy Synod Convenes to Address Tychikos Issue

The Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus is convening in an emergency session today to discuss the issue of Bishop Tychikos, who has appealed to civil courts claiming the Metropolis of Paphos. The Archbishop of Cyprus, George, described this move as unprecedented and outside the practice of the Church. The Synod will examine the issue of Bishop Tychikos' disobedience and is expected to “close the chapter” regarding him. Additionally, proposed changes to the Church's Charter will be discussed, including a proposal for the election of Bishops and Metropolitans exclusively by the Holy Synod, without the involvement of the laity. Finally, complaints regarding monks performing religious duties despite being defrocked will be examined.
