High-Profile Guests to Visit Cyprus Ahead of EU Presidency

The President of the Republic will hold bilateral meetings with high-ranking officials from the EU and other countries ahead of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which begins on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. These meetings will focus on issues such as coordinating European priorities, supporting Ukraine, stability in the Eastern Mediterranean, and cooperation with countries in the Southern Neighborhood. Specifically, he is expected to meet with the President of the European Council, António Costa, with an emphasis on strengthening Europe's strategic autonomy, security, and resilience. He will also meet with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, to discuss European support for Ukraine and efforts for peace. In parallel, he will meet with the President of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun, with the aim of discussing stability in the Eastern Mediterranean. Additionally, the President of the Republic will receive the Minister of Petroleum of Egypt, who will represent the President of the country at the inaugural ceremony. Following the ceremony, he will host a formal dinner in honor of the heads of delegations, where he will have contacts with the President of Moldova, the President of Iraq, and other high-ranking officials. The series of meetings underscores the importance of the Cypriot Presidency in addressing challenges in Europe and strengthening relations with neighboring countries.
