Spain Bans Sale of Energy Drinks to Minors

Spain has announced a ban on the sale of energy drinks to minors under the age of 16. The ban extends to those under 18 for drinks containing more than 32 milligrams of caffeine per 100 milliliters. Minister Pablo Bustinduy emphasized that scientific evidence demonstrates the harmful effects of energy drinks on young people's health and that there is widespread consensus for the ban. According to a survey, 25% of Spaniards consume energy drinks an average of twice a week, while 49% of consumers drink at least one per day and 47% mix them with alcohol. This ban adds to the existing prohibition of sales in schools and new regulations controlling the advertising of these products.
