Guardian Report on Controversial Video: Cyprus President Denies Corruption Allegations

The Guardian newspaper published an article regarding a controversial video in Cyprus that allegedly implicates President Christodoulides in a corruption case. The President has categorically denied the allegations and has requested a full investigation by the competent authorities, with the assistance of foreign states, including the European Union. The 8.5-minute video, posted on X by a self-proclaimed independent researcher, appears to show the President's associates and political allies discussing access to the President through financial donations to a charitable fund for children headed by the First Lady. As a result of the video's release, the President's Chief of Staff resigned, while his wife stepped down from her position at the charity, citing attacks on social media. The opposition has expressed concerns about the country's reputation ahead of the parliamentary elections.
