Greek Justice Minister Calls for Police Reform Amid Rising Crime

The Minister of Justice, Konstantinos Fytiris, addressed the members of the Police Force with a message at the beginning of the new year, acknowledging the challenges they face due to the increase in crime. He emphasized the need for modernization of the Force at all levels, through a transparent and structured institutional dialogue that will take into account the views of all stakeholders. The reform will focus on meritocracy, equality before the law, and strengthening support for frontline personnel, aiming to improve operational readiness and effectiveness. The process will be completed and begin to be implemented in key areas, including Human Resources, before the end of April 2026. The Minister pledged a fair, functional, and humane system that recognizes the specificities of each service and rewards effort and effectiveness, restoring trust between the State, the Police, and society.
