Greek FIR Blackout Resolved: Radio Frequency Issues Fixed

A significant technical issue disrupted radio communications within the Greek FIR, causing a temporary “blackout”. The problem, which began in the morning, stemmed from “noise” across multiple frequencies, potentially originating from telecommunications infrastructure. This led to the cancellation of 53 arrivals and 54 departures from Greek airports. Authorities ensured flight safety throughout the incident. Full restoration of systems was achieved by 17:00 local time, with air traffic flow returning to normal levels by 17:45. A thorough investigation is underway by the ΥΠΑ (Civil Aviation Authority) and the ΕΕΤΤ (National Telecommunications and Post Commission) to determine the exact causes, in collaboration with OTE (Hellenic Telecommunications Organization).
