Greece to Review Cost of Major Cyprus Power Cable Project

Greece will commission an international firm to review the cost of the Great Sea Interconnector, an underwater power cable that will connect Greece with Cyprus. This decision comes as Cyprus has repeatedly expressed concerns about the overall cost and viability of the project, while the country seeks new investments. The project, with a budget of 1.9 billion euros, has been delayed due to geopolitical tensions and requests from Cyprus for clarification. The French company Nexans, which has been contracted to supply the cables, is renegotiating the delivery schedule. Both Greece and Cyprus have reaffirmed their commitment to the project, with Cyprus also exploring potential cooperation with the United Arab Emirates.
