Government Preparing Measures to Mitigate Economic Impact of War

The Government is preparing a list of relief measures for the economy due to the impact of the war in the region, announced Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis. The measures will also take into account the possible duration of the crisis. The Government emphasizes the importance of sound fiscal foundations, which allow for the implementation of support measures, such as the reduction of VAT on electricity and subsidies for vulnerable consumers. Measures worth approximately €100 million are already in effect, implemented before the start of the geopolitical crisis. The Government has prepared a list of new measures, in line with the guidelines of the European Union. The measures will be targeted and have a specific duration. The European Union recognizes that each member state has its own particularities, regarding its energy mix and the conditions prevailing in the country. The Government is expected to announce the measures soon, after obtaining the necessary approvals. A meeting was held under the President of the Republic with the Minister of Finance to finalize the measures. The Government seeks to provide substantial support to the economy and citizens, addressing the challenges created by the war.
