Government Must Take Responsibility and Provide Explanations

The situation with foot and mouth disease in Cyprus is critical, with thousands of animals already culled and the risk of the entire island being infected being real. The government is accused of negligence and lack of coordination in dealing with the crisis, as it did not take the necessary measures in time. The President of the House of Representatives, Annita Dimitriou, stated that the government had been aware of the prevention and management protocols since December, but did not implement them immediately. She proposes a series of measures, such as limiting culling to symptomatic animals, vaccinating all animals, implementing a comprehensive management plan, and compensating farmers. The government must take responsibility, provide explanations, and take all necessary measures to limit the disease and support the livestock sector.
