Government Determined to Break Deadlock in Cyprus Issue

Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis assured that the government remains determined to break the deadlock in the Cyprus issue and restart negotiations for a permanent solution. The statement was made at the national memorial service for hero Dimitrakis Papamiltiadis in Agia Marina Xyliatou. Mr. Letymbiotis emphasized the government's unwavering commitment to making every possible effort, despite the challenges and difficulties, and to remain committed to international law and the principles of the European Union. The government seeks a solution based on international law, UN Security Council resolutions, and EU values, aiming for a state free from occupying troops and obsolete guarantees. Mr. Letymbiotis mentioned that President Nikos Christodoulides has declared the government's dedication to building a Cyprus that will be a symbol of peace, stability, and progress in the region. This effort, according to the Spokesperson, requires seriousness, composure, and political will, with the goal of resuming substantive negotiations from where they left off. The government desires a modern, European country that will guarantee the human rights of all its inhabitants and be based on mutual respect and solidarity. Mr. Letymbiotis underlined that the greatest justification for the sacrifice of the heroes is the liberation of the homeland. He also stressed the importance of historical memory and recalling lessons from the past, as well as the need to draw lessons from the struggles of heroes like Dimitrakis Papamiltiadis.
