“God Punished Me”: Metropolitan of Limassol Recounts Childhood Incident on Feast Day

The Metropolitan of Limassol, Athanasios, is celebrating his name day today, receiving wishes from political and church representatives, as well as from believers. During a luncheon he hosted, he recounted an incident from his childhood when, anxious about his first confession, he threw stones at the Metropolis. According to him, Father Markos, to whom he tried to confess, passed away that same night. He also referred to the period of the ecclesiastical coup, when he participated in demonstrations and threw stones at the Metropolis due to disagreement with the then Metropolitan of Kition, Anthimos. Metropolitan Athanasios emphasized the importance of humility and not despising anyone, as God may have unforeseen plans for everyone's life. Instead of gifts, the Metropolitan of Limassol asked for contributions to the meal for the poor of the Metropolis.
