Giorgos Pentinaex: Comprehensive National Strategy Needed to Tackle Crime

MP Giorgos Pentinaex of the Democratic Alignment condemned the recent serious criminal incidents that have occurred in Cyprus, emphasizing that they have no place in a democratic and law-abiding state. He called for immediate, effective, and evidence-based action from all responsible institutions. Mr. Pentinaex stressed the need for a comprehensive national strategy to address organized crime, which should include short-term and long-term measures based on documented data and institutional continuity. He emphasized that the authorities must ensure the full investigation of cases, accountability, and strengthening of prevention, with respect for the rule of law and human rights. Security is not achieved through shouting or simplifications, but through serious planning and investment in social cohesion, education, and effective policing. Mr. Pentinaex expressed his support for the efforts of the Minister of Justice and the Police to tackle crime and ensure public safety, recognizing their difficult role.
