GESY: Prescription Execution with Barcode – End to Friday on Verbal Update of Pharmacists in the Presence of Other People

From next Friday, beneficiaries of the General Health System (GESY) will be able to use a barcode to execute their prescriptions at pharmacies, without having to verbally inform the pharmacist of their personal data. The barcode will be available electronically through the Beneficiary Portal, allowing beneficiaries to present it directly at the pharmacy via mobile phone or other portable device. The new service will facilitate the prescription execution process and protect the privacy of patients. The pharmacist will be able to scan the code and execute the prescription immediately, without requiring any verbal reference to personal data. The use of the barcode is optional and beneficiaries can show their identity card if they do not wish to give their personal details verbally. The new service is a step towards further digitization of GESY and improving citizen service. The Health Insurance Organization (HIO) announced that the new service will be available from Friday and that beneficiaries can find more information on the Beneficiary Portal.
