George Koumas Case: €100,000 Bail Set, Lawyer Comments on Aesop – May 6th Response Date

George Koumas will respond to the 25 charges against him on May 6th, relating to potential conflicts of interest due to his positions at the KOP (Cyprus Football Association) and his ownership of two companies. The defense requested an adjournment due to the prosecution not submitting all the evidence. The judge set the date, but Koumas' lawyer, Christos Triantafyllidis, expressed doubts about his client's attendance, describing the process as "on the verge of Aesop's fables". The prosecution, through senior lawyer Anna Matthaiou, clarified that the evidence consists of four boxes of files. As a bail condition for Koumas' appearance at the next hearing, a personal guarantee of €100,000 was set, along with a guarantee from a third party. The guarantee was deemed necessary due to Koumas' business trips abroad. The charges relate to Koumas' positions at the KOP (deputy president and president) and his ownership of the companies TRIPLE AAA PRODUCTIONS LIMITED and TRIPLE AAA VILLAGE STUDIOS LTD. He is accused of a conflict of interest due to simultaneously collaborating with various organizations for the production and broadcast of television sports events. Specifically, Koumas' companies provided services to organizations such as the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority, GO PLC, the Cyprus Racing Club, Cablenet, and the Cyprus Basketball Federation, for the television production of sporting events such as the first division championship, Cypriot basketball matches, and horse racing. These contracts cover a period from 2014 onwards.
