General Hospital of Nicosia Embraces Robotic Joint Replacement

The Orthopedic Clinic of the General Hospital of Nicosia, the largest public orthopedic unit in Cyprus, is being enhanced with a new robotic system for total knee and hip arthroplasty. This move is part of the strategic plan of the State Health Services Organization (SHSO) for the modernization and upgrading of health services provided. The clinic serves over 11,000 outpatients and performs over 1,400 surgical procedures annually, while having specialized staff to manage complex orthopedic cases. The introduction of robotic technology enhances the accuracy of pre-operative planning and implant placement, supporting the surgeon and enabling a personalized approach. The goal is to improve functional outcomes and the long-term survival of implants. The clinic also has advanced technological tools, such as O-ARM, surgical microscope, magnetic and computed tomography, further enhancing the quality of services provided. The clinic applies modern techniques of restorative orthopedics, such as the correction of bone deformities and bone lengthening, as well as arthroscopic procedures and total joint replacements with personalized techniques. Access to advanced technological tools and the specialized team contribute to the holistic care of patients and the management of complex cases.
