Fytiris: Targeting the 'Heads' of Crime Syndicates – What He Said About Annie

Minister of Justice and Public Order, Kostas Fytiris, stated that the government is targeting the 'heads' of criminal syndicates and is exerting continuous pressure to bring them to justice. He emphasized that strengthening the citizens' sense of security is his top priority and that combating organized crime is essential. Mr. Fytiris dismissed the possibility of a cover-up by the Police, emphasizing that the Force is the 'castle of protection of society'. He acknowledged that there may be isolated incidents of corruption, but these do not reflect the overall picture of the Police. He also pointed out that a special task force has been set up to combat money laundering and seize assets that cannot be justified by legitimate income. The task force will operate from March and will have responsibilities for collecting information, legal surveillance and cooperating with other services. Regarding the case of Simon Aikout, the Minister stated that his transfer to Israel will take place under an international agreement, on the condition that he will serve the remainder of his sentence in Israel. Regarding the Annie case, Mr. Fytiris stated that they are seeking an institutional procedure for collecting all the evidence that Annie possesses.
