Former Energy Minister Lakkootrypis Does Not Have Lobbying License

Former Energy Minister, Giorgos Lakkotrypis, does not have a license for lobbying, according to Chrystalla Socratous, a legal associate of the Anti-Corruption Authority. Ms. Socratous emphasized that the incompatibility committee examines cases of former state officials who wish to work in the private sector, with a two-year time limit. Currently, 271 lobbyists, both legal and natural persons, are registered in Cyprus. Lobbying is not illegal, but requires transparency in meetings with officials. Companies, associations, and trade unions have the right to register with the Anti-Corruption Authority, and meetings concerning public decisions must be declared.
