Former Cyprus Football Association President Faces 25 Charges of Conflict of Interest

George Koumas will be tried on 25 charges related to conflict of interest due to the positions he held and his involvement in companies that exploited televised sports events for over a decade. The trial is scheduled for May 6th, following a request for adjournment by the defense attorneys due to the non-delivery of all evidentiary material by the prosecuting authority. Mr. Koumas was released on a €100,000 bail and the guarantee of a third party. His lawyers described the arrangement as “formal,” leaving open the possibility of new issues. The charges relate to his involvement in TRIPLE AAA PRODUCTIONS LIMITED and TRIPLE AAA VILLAGE STUDIOS LTD, which collaborated with various entities for television productions of sporting events. The companies’ clients include the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority, GO PLC, the Cyprus Racing Club, Cablenet, and the Cyprus Basketball Federation. The indictment covers contracts from 2014 to 2025, with revenues of approximately €6.5 million. 33 witnesses will testify in the trial. The case concerns potential conflicts of interest and the exploitation of Mr. Koumas’s position in the CFA to promote the business interests of his companies.
