Foot and Mouth Disease: Zero New Cases - Culling Continues

No new cases of foot and mouth disease have been reported in Cyprus, while culling and sampling continue as normal, according to the spokesperson of the Veterinary Services, Sotiria Georgiou. The second dose of vaccination will begin at the end of March, while vaccines for pigs are expected by the end of March or early April. The culling of cattle in Geri has been completed, while it continues in Dromolaxia and Oroklini, with some minor delays due to weather conditions. Tracing and sampling continue with the aim of identifying potential cases from previous movements, even from the beginning of January. The samples do not detect antibodies from vaccinated animals, but focus on detecting the virus and antibodies due to natural infection. The goal is to identify the route of the virus and limit the infection. There have been incidents of obstructing sampling, which will be resolved to carry out sampling in all areas. The spokesperson of the Veterinary Services stressed the importance of listening to official authorities and avoiding misinformation, offering full transparency and support to livestock farmers.
