Foot-and-Mouth Disease: Three New Cases in Larnaca - 49 Infected Units

The Veterinary Services announced three new cases of foot-and-mouth disease in the Dromolaxia-Meneou area of Larnaca. The cases were identified in two sheep farms (with a total of 240 animals) and one cattle farm (with 118 animals). With the addition of these new cases, the total number of infected units now amounts to 49. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and take measures to limit the spread of the disease. The spokesperson for the Veterinary Services, Sotiria Georgiou, confirmed the new cases and stressed the importance of adhering to prevention and control measures to protect animal production. The foot-and-mouth disease epidemic poses a serious threat to livestock farming in Cyprus, as it can cause significant economic damage and affect exports of animal products.
