Τα σημερινά αποτελέσματα των αναλύσεων των Κτηνιατρικών Υπηρεσιών ανέδειξαν άλλες δύο μολυσμένες μονάδες, φτάνοντας έτσι στις 44 με κρούσματα αφθώδη πυρετού, σύμφωνα με ενημέρωση από τις Υπηρεσίες.
Οι σημερινές μονάδες είναι μια μονάδα 16 αιγοπροβάτων στη Δρομολαξια και μια μονάδα βοοειδών με 193 ζώα στο Μενεού, εντός της μολυσμένης ζώνης στην επαρχία Λάρνακας.
Οι Κτηνιατρικές Υπηρεσίες συνεχίζουν, στο μεταξύ, τις επιδημιολογικές διερευνήσεις, δειγματοληψίες, ιχνηλατήσεις και εργαστηριακές εξετάσεις.
Σύμφωνα με την ενημέρωση, οι εμβολιασμοί έχουν φτάσει στο 89% των μονάδων βοοειδών και στο 65% των μονάδων αιγοπροβάτων παγκυπρίως. Παράλληλα, έχει ήδη ξεκινήσει ο δεύτερος επαναληπτικός εμβολιασμός.
Συνεχίζονται, εξάλλου, σήμερα οι θανατώσεις ζώων στα Λιβάδια φτάνοντας μέχρι στιγμής περίπου τις 21,000 αιγοπρόβατα συνολικά.
Οι Κτηνιατρικές Υπηρεσίες και η Αστυνομία συνεχίζουν, εξάλλου τις συντονισμένες ενέργειες για εντοπισμό παράνομων διακινήσεων. Σύμφωνα με την ενημέρωση, μέχρι στιγμής έχουν εντοπιστεί τέσσερις περιπτώσεις για τις οποίες προβαίνουν οι αρχές στη λήψη των προβλεπόμενων από την νομοθεσία μέτρων.
Foot and Mouth Disease Outbreak: Two More Infected Units in Larnaca
The Veterinary Services of Cyprus announced the detection of two new cases of foot and mouth disease, bringing the total number of infected units to 44. The new cases were identified in a sheep and goat unit in Dromolaxia and a cattle unit in Meneou, within the already designated infected zone in the province of Larnaca. The services continue epidemiological investigations, sampling, and laboratory tests to limit the spread of the disease. The vaccination of animals is progressing at a satisfactory rate, reaching 89% of cattle and 65% of sheep and goats across Cyprus. Simultaneously, the second booster vaccination has begun, aiming to strengthen the immunity of the livestock population. Authorities emphasize the importance of completing the vaccination program for the effective management of the disease. Meanwhile, the culling of animals, mainly sheep and goats, in Livadia continues, with the number reaching approximately 21,000. Culling is one of the measures taken to control the spread of foot and mouth disease, despite protests from farmers. The Veterinary Services and the Police are cooperating to detect and combat the illegal movement of animals, which can contribute to the spread of the disease. Four cases of illegal trafficking have already been identified, and authorities are taking the necessary legal action.
