Foot-and-Mouth Disease: Culling of Animals Begins in Aradippou, Vaccines Arriving

The process of burying animals from a livestock unit where cases of foot-and-mouth disease have been identified has begun in Aradippou. The Mayor of Aradippou, Christodoulos Partou, stated that the unit numbers over 4,000 sheep and goats and the burial will be carried out according to the protocol of the Veterinary Services. Simultaneously, the vaccination of sheep and goats is expected to begin, while the Municipality is available to assist livestock farmers and veterinarians. No new cases have been identified so far. The Mayor mentioned that the Municipality has pig farms and that pigs require a different vaccine, emphasizing the need to protect the pig farms from potential infection. In a meeting with livestock farmers, the issue of financial compensation for the animals to be culled was discussed, as well as an incident where a farmer questioned the positive results of the tests for his flock.
