Flu Dominates – Daily Increase in Hospitalized Patients – Cases of Two Categories in Emergency Rooms

The flu currently dominates in Cyprus, with increased transmission among citizens and a daily increase in hospitalized patients. Hospitals are operating at nearly 90% capacity, but the State Health Services Organisation (SHSO) states that it is fully prepared to serve all patients. During the holidays, there was an increased influx to Accident and Emergency Departments, with cases involving both common conditions (heart attacks, strokes) and seasonal infections, mainly influenza A. Hospitalizations mainly concern elderly individuals with severe symptoms. The peak of the flu is expected in mid-January, and increased numbers may continue until March.
