Flu A Cases Rise After Holidays in Cyprus

Following the New Year celebrations, there has been an increase in hospital admissions for Flu A in public hospitals in Cyprus. Spokesperson for the Cyprus Public Health Organisation (OKYpY), Charalambos Charilaou, described the phenomenon as expected for this time of year and stated there is no cause for concern. An increase in Flu A and other seasonal infections is common from January to April. Mr. Charilaou assured that OKYpY is prepared to handle any increase in patient flow to Accident and Emergency Departments, as well as hospitalizations. He also noted that there were no cases of overeating during the holidays. The increased attendance at Accident and Emergency Departments was attributed to the leave of personal and specialist doctors. This resulted in the full burden falling on public hospitals. However, all cases were adequately managed. Fast-track outpatient clinics continued to operate, serving non-emergency cases without delay, resulting in satisfied patients. OKYpY is closely monitoring the situation and is ready to take further measures if necessary.
