Fire Department Report: Prolonged Propane Leak Caused Fatal Explosion at Biolanda

The Fire Department has announced the findings of its investigation into the explosion at the Biolanda food factory in Trikala, which resulted in the death of five female workers. The investigation revealed that the explosion was caused by a months-long propane leak, creating extremely high concentrations of gas underground, combined with a spark. The fire department mobilized significant forces to extinguish the fire and locate the missing persons. There were 13 people working at the factory, of whom 8 managed to escape. Three of the survivors required hospitalization. Investigations began immediately after the incident, with the participation of the Trikala Public Prosecutor, EMAK, the Thessaloniki Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team (TEEM), and experts. The Fire Department used nitrogen for specialized checks. The process of locating the five victims was time-consuming and difficult, as the bodies were charred. The Fire Department emphasizes that all prescribed procedures were followed in managing the tragic event.
