Financial Literacy Programs Expanded in Cypriot Schools

The Cypriot Ministry of Education is promoting financial literacy in secondary education through a nationwide intervention program. The program, which began last school year, focuses on personal budgeting, saving, and borrowing. In the third grade of Gymnasium (high school), students receive 6 teaching hours annually, while the program is also being extended to the first and second grades of Gymnasium through workshops. Furthermore, financial education has been introduced in the sixth grade of Primary School through a fairytale titled “70 Toko and a Hole in the Shoe.” The National Strategy for the Promotion of Financial Literacy and Financial Education was approved in 2022.
