Final Farewell to Valentino in Rome: Global Fashion and Hollywood Mourn the Legend

The funeral of Italian fashion designer Valentino Garavani was held in Rome, attended by representatives of the global jet set and haute couture. Valentino was laid in state at PM23, a new art and cultural space founded by his own foundation. The ceremony took place at the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri, a historic building designed by Michelangelo. Present were prominent figures such as Anna Wintour, Donatella Versace, Anne Hathaway, Alessandro Michele, and Pierpaolo Piccioli, as well as many fans who had gathered to pay their respects. The presence of the Carabinieri in uniforms designed by Armani, as well as the crowd dressed in red, highlighted the global recognition and respect that people had for the legendary designer. One fan held a sign reading, “Goodbye Valentino. The last emperor of fashion.” Valentino’s longtime partner, Giancarlo Giammetti, read a moving farewell message. Valentino will be buried in the Prima Porta cemetery in Rome, in a circular tomb with stained glass and evergreen plants.
