Fidan: "Very Limited Risk for Cyprus"

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that the risk to Cyprus from a possible attack by Iran is "very limited." Speaking to Turkish journalists in Ankara, he estimated that the risk is limited in both northern and southern Cyprus, emphasizing that there are no indications of a particular threat to civilian infrastructure. Fidan estimated that the Israeli Prime Minister is seeking the complete neutralization of the Iranian threat, and that the targeting is shifting from Iran's military capabilities to the regime itself. He argued that Turkey tried to prevent the war, offering "creative proposals." He warned that the direct targeting of US bases by Iran in Arab countries increases the risk of a wider regional crisis, while noting that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz would cause serious disruptions to international energy markets and the financial system. Additionally, he referred to the presence of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in Iran, emphasizing that Turkey is closely monitoring their actions and that regional stability is a basic prerequisite for the "terrorism-free environment" that Turkey seeks.
