Families Find Shelter in Monastery Following Recent Attacks

Approximately 25 families, many with small children, sought refuge in a monastery in Cyprus following a recent attack in the area. The monastery, under the guidance of Archimandrite Dimitriano, offered shelter to those seeking safety, particularly residents near the British Bases and the airport. Archimandrite Dimitriano stated that the need for safe shelter arose after communication with the Deputy Mayor of Erimi, Andreas Arestis, and with the immediate response of Metropolitan Athanasios. The families initially went to schools and then to the monastery, where they found peace and security. The monastery is a restoration of an old monastery discovered during excavations in a cave, known as the cave of Saint George. During the excavation, the Holy Table and the foundations of the old monastery were found, resulting in its restoration with the blessing of the Metropolitan. The residents offer assistance to the families, providing blankets, food and care, especially during Great Lent, demonstrating their solidarity and support. The monastery remains open to those in need of temporary shelter, offering a safe environment.
