Successful Sea Trial of Electric Cables for the Great Sea Interconnector Project

The sea trial for the underwater electric cables of the Great Sea Interconnector (GSI) project, connecting Greece and Cyprus, has been successfully completed in a marine area west of Sicily. The test, carried out by the 'Nexans Aurora' cable-laying vessel, simulated the installation conditions of the cable at a depth of 3,000 meters and included high-voltage electrical tests. The successful completion of the trial confirms the technical feasibility of the project and demonstrates that the cable can be installed and operated safely at great depths. The data collected will be evaluated to ensure the quality and certification of the project, which is one of the largest and deepest underwater electric interconnection systems globally.
