Eurostat: Cyprus Has the Highest Percentage of Citizens Not Using Public Transport

According to Eurostat data, Cyprus has the highest percentage of citizens in the European Union who do not use public transport, reaching 85% of people over the age of 16. Italy, Portugal, France, Slovenia and Greece follow. Conversely, the lowest percentages were recorded in Luxembourg, Estonia and Sweden. Only 4.5% of Cypriots over the age of 16 use public transport daily, 4.3% weekly, 2.9% once a month and 3.3% less than once a month. At the EU level, 10.7% use public transport daily, 11.6% weekly, 10.0% monthly and 17.1% less than once a month, while 50.6% do not use them at all. Luxembourg, Latvia and Estonia have the highest percentages of weekly public transport use in the EU. These figures indicate significant differences in the preference and use of public transport between the various EU member states, possibly due to factors such as geography, urban development and the availability of alternative modes of transport.
