Life expectancy at birth in Cyprus in 2024 was 83.55 years, according to the latest data from Eurostat, exceeding the European Union average. For men, life expectancy was 81.5 years, while for women it was 85.6 years, confirming the trend of women living longer. At the EU level, life expectancy was 81.5 years, having recovered after the decline observed in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Cyprus ranks immediately after Spain, Sweden, and Italy, which have the highest life expectancies in the EU. At the regional level, the Community of Madrid has the highest life expectancy in the EU, followed by Italian and Swedish regions. Conversely, the lowest values were recorded in Bulgaria and in certain regions of France and Hungary. According to Eurostat, in 2024 women in the EU live on average 5.2 years longer than men, with the largest difference being recorded in Latvia and the smallest in the Netherlands. These figures highlight the importance of policies to improve the health and well-being of citizens.
