Eurostat: Construction Production Increases in the EU in December

Construction production in the Eurozone and the European Union increased in December 2025, according to Eurostat. Specifically, production rose by 0.9% in the Eurozone and 1.2% in the EU on a monthly basis, reversing the decline in November. However, on an annual basis, production fell by 0.9% in the Eurozone, while remaining stable in the EU. The average production for 2025 remained unchanged in the Eurozone and increased by 0.5% in the EU. More specifically, in the Eurozone, building construction increased by 0.9%, civil engineering projects by 2.3%, and specialized construction activities by 0.6%. In the EU, the corresponding increases were 1.2%, 3.9%, and 0.9%. The largest monthly increases were recorded in Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia, while the largest decreases were in Austria, Slovenia, and Bulgaria. On an annual basis, building construction decreased in the Eurozone, while civil engineering projects and specialized activities increased. In the EU, building construction decreased slightly, while civil engineering projects and specialized activities increased. The largest annual decreases were recorded in Austria, Belgium, and Spain, while the highest increases were in Slovakia, Slovenia, and Finland. Cyprus is not required to provide monthly data under the relevant regulation. These figures show a slight recovery in construction production in December, after a period of decline, but also differences between member states.
