Eurostat: Cyprus Heavily Reliant on Oil for Energy

According to Eurostat data, Cyprus has one of the highest rates of energy dependence on oil products in the European Union, with 86% of available energy coming from crude oil and oil products in 2024. Cyprus imported 96% of its energy from oil products, recording the highest dependence rate in the EU. At the same time, renewable energy sources cover 96% of domestic energy production, placing Cyprus among the countries with the highest renewable energy production in the EU. At the EU level, 38% of available energy comes from oil, 21% from natural gas and 20% from renewable sources.
