Eurostat: Aging Population in Cyprus Over the Last Decade

According to Eurostat data, Cyprus is recording the largest increase in the median age of its population in the European Union over the last decade. The median age in Cyprus increased by 4 years, from 37 in 2015 to 41 in 2025, along with Slovakia. At the EU level, the median age increased by 2.1 years, but in some countries, such as Germany and Malta, a decrease was recorded. Cyprus and Slovakia are at the forefront in terms of the increase in median age, followed by Italy, Greece, Poland and Portugal. The median age of the population in the EU reached 44.9 years, with variations between 39.6 years in Ireland and 49.1 years in Italy. Eurostat reports that the median age of the native population is 2.1 years higher than that of the foreign-born population. These figures highlight the aging of the population in Cyprus and other EU countries, a trend that has significant social and economic implications.
