Eurostat: 86% of Cyprus' Available Energy Comes from Oil

According to Eurostat, Cyprus is one of the European Union countries with the highest energy dependence on oil, as 86% of its available energy came from it in 2024. It also records a high percentage of oil product imports (96%), the highest in the EU. Conversely, renewable energy sources cover 96% of domestic energy production, placing Cyprus among the countries with the highest renewable energy production in the EU. At the EU level, in 2024, available energy came from domestic production by 43% and imports by 57%, with oil being the main source (38%). Eurostat points out significant differences between countries, with nuclear energy dominating in countries such as France and Slovakia, and solid fuels in Poland and Estonia.
