European Committee of the Regions Presidency Meeting to be Held in Cyprus

The Presidency of the European Committee of the Regions will convene in Nicosia on February 9-10, 2026, due to the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU. During the meeting, discussions will focus on how digital innovation, research, and blue technologies can strengthen the preparedness and resilience of European cities, regions, and coastal communities. The role of local and regional authorities in promoting these solutions, implementing them, and protecting their communities from environmental and social challenges will be examined. The European Committee of the Regions, one of the EU institutions, represents the regional and local authorities of the member states. The Committee has an advisory role in EU decision-making, and other EU institutions are obliged to seek its opinion on specific issues concerning cities and regions. It consists of 329 members holding local or regional elected office and holds six plenary sessions per year.
