Europe 'Sucks Up' American LNG

Europe continues to increase its imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States, absorbing 75.8% of total US LNG exports in December 2025. Increased demand from European markets, including Turkey, has led to higher freight rates for LNG carriers in the Atlantic, while simultaneously putting pressure on the Asian market. The US exported a total of 569.3 billion cubic feet of LNG to 28 countries, an increase of 8.4% on a monthly basis and 38.6% on an annual basis. Turkey, the United Kingdom, Egypt, Germany and the Netherlands are the main destinations for American LNG cargoes. The majority of exports (93.7%) are destined for countries outside of US free trade agreements.
