EU Mobilizes Humanitarian and Financial Aid to Lebanon

The European Union is intensifying its support for Lebanon amid escalating violence and significant displacement, reaffirming its commitment to the country's stability. In addition to the €100 million in humanitarian aid announced last week, the EU is mobilizing funds from the €1 billion funding package for the period 2024-2027. Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Šuica, emphasized cooperation with Lebanese authorities and international partners to ensure access to basic services and protect civilians. The EU will continue to support the Lebanese security forces, which play a crucial role in maintaining stability. Specifically, the EU has allocated €10 million to support 100,000 vulnerable households that have been displaced, while 20 mobile medical units have been deployed to support collective shelters and evacuation areas. In addition, the EU is adapting its support in the education sector, providing distance learning and digital training tools. The EU is also strengthening its support for the Lebanese government's National Operations Room, which coordinates emergency response and promotes sustainable solutions for Syrian refugees, as well as border monitoring and migration management.
