EU: 1 in 3 Online Stores Deceive Customers During 'Black Friday'

The European Union has reported that one-third of online stores deceive consumers during 'Black Friday' sales. Checks on over 300 online retailers in approximately 20 EU member states revealed misleading discounts and sales tactics that influence consumer decisions. Specifically, 30% of retailers displayed false discounts, artificially inflating prices before reducing them. Furthermore, 36% added products to shoppers' carts without their consent, while 18% used high-pressure sales tactics, such as displaying countdown timers. 10% of stores added hidden fees during the checkout process. The European Commission emphasizes that these practices are illegal and national consumer protection authorities can take action against offenders.
