Erhurman: Republic of Cyprus' Military Alliances Endanger Security, Tourism & Economy

Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman accused the Republic of Cyprus of endangering the security, tourism, and economy of Cyprus with its military alliances and agreements, as well as “trapping” the Turkish Cypriot community in situations without its consent. He argued that the militarization of the island raises security concerns and negatively impacts tourism. Erhurman referred to an article citing statements by former Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, according to which the Annan Plan would have made Greece's military presence in Cyprus impossible. He emphasized that lasting peace and stability in Cyprus require respect for the will of the Turkish Cypriot side.
