EP Votes to Lift Immunity of Nikos Pappas and Gregor Braun

The European Parliament plenary voted to lift the immunity of MEPs Nikos Pappas and Gregor Braun, following three separate votes. The decision regarding Nikos Pappas was based on a request from the Greek Prosecutor's Office for alleged defamation and insult, while for Gregor Braun, it concerned multiple offenses allegedly committed in Poland, such as the removal of flags and the denial of genocide. In the case of Nikos Pappas, the Parliament ruled that the offenses were not linked to the exercise of his parliamentary duties. Regarding Gregor Braun, the charges relate to acts committed in 2025 in Poland, including the destruction of objects at exhibitions on LGBTQI+ rights. The European Parliament emphasized that it does not function as a court and that the lifting of immunity does not mean that the MEP is a “defendant”. The reports and decisions will be forwarded to the competent national authorities of Greece and Poland for further investigation.
