The Cypriot EU presidency is characterized by the presence of representatives from countries in the region that are not EU members, but seek close relations with it. The presence of leaders from Lebanon, Iraq, and representatives from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, as well as the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and the Gulf Cooperation Council, highlights Cyprus's pivotal role in the region and its value to the EU. The Cypriot government has developed relations with these states, enabling it to play a unique role, which no other European country can match with the same credibility. This upgrade is important for promoting Cypriot interests, including the Cyprus issue. The author argues that Cyprus's foreign policy is paying off, as it strengthens the state and creates opportunities to achieve national goals. He dismisses criticism that downplays the Cypriot presidency, describing it as merely procedural. Even the presence of Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the opening ceremony is considered part of this entanglement of interests, as Cyprus will play a significant role in promoting Ukrainian issues during its presidency.
