Emergency Air Ambulance for Pregnant Woman to Israel - Infant to Undergo Surgery

A pregnant woman in her 35th week of gestation was urgently transported to Israel to receive necessary medical care. According to Monika Kyriakou, Director of Health Services at the OAY, the air ambulance was required to ensure a safe delivery, as the infant will need surgery immediately after birth. In total, since the OAY took over patient transfers abroad, 27 cases have been deemed urgent and required air ambulance transport. Ten of these involved an immediate threat to the patient’s life, and the transfer was completed within hours. Ms. Kyriakou emphasized that Israel is a frequent destination for serious cases due to its proximity to Cyprus, allowing for rapid access to specialized medical care. This is especially important when immediate treatment is required. The need for air ambulances highlights the importance of access to specialized medical services that may not be available locally. The government and OAY are working to ensure the effective transfer of patients to appropriate facilities when necessary.
