Elon Musk's Neuralink Plans 'Mass' Production of Brain Implants by 2026

Neuralink, Elon Musk's neurotechnology company, has announced plans to begin 'large-scale' production of brain-computer interface devices by 2026, aiming to automate the implantation process in humans. The device, known as 'Telepathy', is designed to help individuals with severe paralysis control digital tools through thought. The first participant in clinical trials, who received the implant in January 2024, has already used the technology to move a cursor on a computer, browse the internet, and interact on social media. The technology has improved their autonomy and communication. Neuralink began clinical trials in humans in 2024, after initially overcoming hurdles set by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The FDA had initially rejected a request from the company in 2022. As of September 2025, 12 individuals with severe paralysis have received Neuralink's implants and are using them to control both digital and physical tools with their thoughts.
