Electricity Market Association: Discussion on Energy Should Be Based on Evidence

The Electricity Market Association (EMA) responds to statements by the President of the EAC regarding access to renewable energy sources (RES), arguing that EAC Supply has the largest access to installed RES capacity in Cyprus. The EMA points out that EAC's power purchase agreements from RES, at a price of 11 cents/kWh, exceed the total installed capacity of private photovoltaic parks. In addition, it challenges the criticism of Net Metering and Net Billing systems, arguing that they contribute to reducing electricity generation costs. The EMA expresses concern about EAC's desire to contract 100% of RES production, believing that this could jeopardize competition in the electricity market. Finally, it emphasizes the need to resolve issues with metering data for transparency and market reliability.
