EFSA Monitoring Foot and Mouth Disease Situation in Cyprus

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) is closely monitoring the situation in Cyprus following the outbreak of foot and mouth disease. EFSA has stated that it is ready to support the European Commission and local authorities in dealing with the crisis. At the same time, it emphasizes that foot and mouth disease is not transmitted to humans. EFSA is not responsible for imposing bans on products, but this responsibility lies with the European Commission and national authorities. Trips by experts to Cyprus have been announced to assist in addressing the situation.
